A Level Photography

Key Stage 5

This two year A-Level course is for students who are passionate about photography and are looking to build upon and extend their creative skills gained at GCSE. A-Level Photography gives students exposure to different aspects of photography, allowing them to display their abilities in a variety of artistic disciplines.

You will be introduced to a variety of experiences exploring a range of photographic media techniques and processes. You will be made aware of both traditional and new technologies and you will explore relevant images, artifacts and resources relating to photography and a wider range of art and design, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples. This is integral to the investigating and making process. Your responses to these examples will be shown through practical and critical activities, which demonstrate your understanding of different styles, genres and traditions in Photography. You will be aware of the four assessment objectives to be demonstrated in the context of the content and skills presented and of the importance of process as well as product.

You will be assessed using the four A-Level assessment objectives: AO1- Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding. AO2 – Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops. AO3 – Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress. AO4 – Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
