Year 8 Consultation Evening

Consult

The Year 8 consultation evening is this Thursday 26 January 2012 from 4.30pm until 7.00pm. This is the ideal opportunity to talk to subject and form tutors about your childs progress this year. Students in Year 8 should have been making appointments over the last few days.

It will also be a good time to talk about courses beginning in the last term of this academic year when key stage four timetables begin.

Come along and we would be delighted to talk to you.

Maths Trip to Disneyland, Paris

The Maths department will be taking a group of students to Disneyland, Paris on Monday 30 January 2012. The expedition leaves school at 9.30 in the morning and aims to arrive back on Wednesday 01 February about 10.00pm.

Apart from enjoying the many rides and experiences at the park, students will be engaged in many maths related activities. They have seminars to attend on rollercoaster design, architecture, catering, finance and marketing. They also have to complete five written assignments that include looking at maximum ride loads, financial comparisons, environmental considerations and theme park design principles. There are prizes for the best designs.

We wish them all well and we're sure they will all have a lovely time.

 Presentation Evening

The Presentation Evening held on Thursday 05 January was a great success. The Lecture Theatre was packed out to witness many of last years Year 11 and Year 13 students receive their certificates. All students walked down the stairs to rapturous applause and there was a great atmosphere throughout the awards.

Two of the biggest ovations were for Rebecca Fletcher and Doug Selkirk who were warmly thanked for their contributions to the Heath Park community. Miss Fletcher was hugged by almost every student as she gave out their envelopes. The Headteachers Award was this year given, by Mr Selkirk, toTanveer Mandair for her outstanding committment and performance throughout her time at Heath Park. This was also an extremely popular choice. The night was wrapped up with refreshments and a chance to catch up with friends and teachers in the school canteen.

More Pictures available in the Photo Gallery.

Drama Club

DramaWe have started a Drama Club for anybody interested in some fun activities. Come along and meet new people from around the school who share the same interests as you: creativity, drama and performance! Through improvisation, role play and other techniques you will learn how to express yourself and develop your talent in a fun environment. Drama club gives you the chance to learn about and build on acting skills/ abilities that will also increase your self esteem and confidence. Furthermore, there will be exciting opportunities for visits to the theatre, to watch plays and musicals. Drama club is held every Wednesday in the Lecture Theatre 3.15-4.15pm. You can wear your uniform or bring a change of comfortable clothing with you if you wish. No past experience is required for Drama club and all are welcome from every year group.

There is a scheme of work and free access to the CC4G material online.

There will be a showcase at the end of the project.

Interested? Then please come along to ICT1 on Monday after school from 3.10pm until 4.00pm.

Film Club

Forbidden KngdomFilm club is open to all students and usually operates every other Thursday after school in B24.

The next film to be shown is the 2008 Chinese-American martial arts action film 'The Forbidden Kingdom' starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li. This is a fun film that has surprises aplenty and passes more than one nod towards early influences like the TV series 'Monkey'. You even get to see Chan and Li fight. What more could you want?
