The aim of our department is to offer students the opportunity within PE to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. We aim to give students the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of a healthy, active lifestyle. We want to help students make informed choices for lifelong Health and Fitness.

Within the PE curriculum students will develop their personal and social skills. They will work as individuals, in groups and in teams. They will take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences that PE offers, students learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations. Students will understand the concept of fair play and good sportsmanship.


Department Aims:

1. To allow each child a regular outlet for the positive expenditure of energy

2. To allow each child the opportunity to learn and develop useful and important (motor) skills

3. To allow each child the opportunity to achieve and experience a level of success in order to foster self-esteem through the acquisition of physical competence

4. To aid in the social and moral development of each child through the interaction inherent in sporting and games activities and the rules which go with them? In particular, to develop an appreciation of the concepts of fair play, honest competition and good sportsmanship

5. To allow for the aesthetic appreciation of skilled movement

6. To offer guidance in the most productive use of leisure time both during school time and after school

7. To develop maturity and self-confidence through understanding and capabilities and limitations of oneself and others

8. To physically educate all pupils equally, and develop their full potential and experiences

9. To provide the opportunities and guidance necessary to achieve the End of Key Stage Statements, within the National Curriculum.

10. To allow interested students the opportunity to begin the academic study of sport.
