On Monday 3rd April, the Year 9 Boys Football team travelled to the Sir Jack Hayward training ground for their Wolverhampton Schools Cup Final against Coppice.
After losing out in the final last year, the boys had extra motivation to succeed and started brightly with Leon McDonald and Duvon Betty both coming close early on. It was those two who then combined to open the scoring with Duvon playing the ball through for Leon to finish to make it 1-0.
In a tense game, Coppice grew in confidence as the second half went on and with twelve minutes remaining they scored with an excellent corner converted at the back post.
It would have been easy for the Heath Park boys to drop their heads but as the game went into the last five minutes, Captain Jack Jones popped up with a goal of real quality. With the ball dropping to him thirty yards from goal, Jones took one touch and rifled a half volley into the top corner of the net to save the game from a penalty shoot out.
A wonderful effort from all of the players involved who are now on to secure a Treble this season as they sit top of the league and have now won the Cup and the 9-a-side tournament.
Well done lads!
