Students Represent Heath Park In Solutions For The Planet Regional Finals
Mr Darby and Mrs Bland have had the pleasure of taking 2 teams to the regional finals of the Solutions for the Planet competition held at the University of Wolverhampton.
These 2 teams were 2 of 10 picked from across the whole of the West Midlands for their entries made earlier in the year.
The teams were tasked with identifying a problem in the world and coming up with a solution to tackle it.
‘Destination:Happy’ are running a campaign to raise awareness of depression and other mental health issues in society and to help link the people who need help with the people who can help. They plan to start their campaign at Heath Park! So watch this space!
‘Clean Charging’ are designing a device which incorporates a powerbank to charge your mobile phone with the kinetic energy charging system found in wind up torches so you charge your phone as you move! They wish to sell the product to help reduce child obesity and reduce emissions from powerstations.
The teams had to present their ideas in a Dragon’s Den style scenario to a panel of judges and experts from across a range of industries. They were extremely professional and coped exceedingly well under the pressure. We are now waiting to see if they get selected for the National final which is held at the Palace of Westminster, London later in the year.
They have done extremely well to get to this stage as they have beaten several hundred teams to get to the regional final. Only 12 teams are now selected from across the whole of the UK for the National Final and we are hoping that they are 2 of them.
This continues Heath Park’s great success in this competition, following 4 National Finalists in the past 3 years. Hopefully these teams will follow!
Well done girls and good luck!
