Year 10 Excellence Academy Visits Oxford University
On April 27th, Mrs Peers and Mr Blower had the pleasure of accompanying a group of Excellence Academy students from Heath Park, who had the opportunity to visit Oxford University this week for a Taster Day.
Thirty-four students visited Oriel College, having the opportunity to tour some spectacular buildings, eat lunch with undergraduates in a regal dining hall, meet current Oxford students and take part in workshops around their A Level option choices which are a little over a year away. In addition, they got to see some of the most famous sights in the city, including the Bridge of Sighs and the Bodleian Library.
The students learned a great deal about what it will take to achieve a place in such a prestigious university, and left with advice and guidance about what they will have to do to make it a reality over the next few years. They will reflect upon this back at school and be ambassadors for the rest of the year group as they all begin to turn their attentions to future plans and goals.
Excellence Academy students at Heath Park have the opportunity to visit a number of the country’s top universities during their time at the school, as part of a strategy to continue to raise the aspirations of our students. We have an increasing number of students both applying to and gaining places in Russell Group universities, a testament to links built with a range of higher education institutions across Britain. This year we have had the success of Danny Williams-Ruiz taking up a place at Cambridge University, as well as two successful Oxford applications in the current Year 13 group.
Heath Park students have every opportunity to apply to these top universities, and we are very proud of all that our Excellence Academy students have achieved in recent years.
