Year 9 Girls Inspired By Female Engineering Experience
In the run-up to the half-term break Mr Blower and Mrs Stroud had the pleasure of taking 35 Year 9 girls to the Telford Innovation Campus of Wolverhampton University for a Female Engineering Conference.
The visit was an excellent, inspiring experience for the girls to see excellent university facilities, including the only student-run Formula 3 Racing team in the country, a range of 3D printers, robotics and a fully working aerodynamic wind tunnnel.
The girls heard from dynamic female speakers who have achieved success in fields of science and engineering, and also had the opportunity to sit down with successful professionals from a variety of STEM careers to find out how they had developed into these career paths.
Heath Park makes a significant commitment to STEM, and also to including girls in these activities – there is a great shortage of female engineers in the country at present. Mr Darby heads up our STEM initiative, and STEM Club runs in the Science department on Thursday evenings, this half-term focusing on a robotics challenge.
The girls took part with great maturity and enthusiasm, and we have doubt that there were some budding female engineers of the future!
