Year 8 Excellence Academy Enjoy Cultural Day in Birmingham

On the last day before the recent half-term break, Mr Blower and Mrs Bland had the pleasure of taking the Year 8 Excellence Academy group on a Cultural Day in Birmingham to round out a half-term of hard work.

The visit saw them spend the first half of their day at the Library of Birmingham, visiting the Secret Garden which overlooks the city, and the Shakespeare Memorial Library – of the most beautiful rooms in the Midlands. They also took part in a scavenger hunt challenge which tested their knowledge of literature and their teamwork. In the afternoon they visited the Museum of Birmingham, where they visited various exhibitions focused on the Victorians – which they have studied this term – as well as seeing the famed Staffordshire Hoard up close.

Excellence Academy students experience a range of visits and additional opportunities during their time at Heath Park as part of our attainment-raising strategies, and this is a particularly able year group who have the potential to do great things. They will soon be visiting Aston University for their first university campus experience, part of our long-running strategy to drive up the attainment and aspiration of the group.

The students’ attitude and conduct was excellent, and they were a credit to themselves and the school.
